What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that are bonded directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They’re a great option for improving smiles and have become increasingly popular due to their versatility. They allow patients to pick the shape and shade of their teeth, not to mention, they look fantastic!

Are Veneers a Good Choice for Me?

Veneers are a more conservation method of changing a tooth’s appearance. Stain-resistant, veneers appear to be natural teeth, and they don’t irritate the gums.

Many people have chosen veneers to help with conditions like:

  • Discolored or stained teeth, regardless of the reason
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Worn down teeth
  • Uneven, strangely shaped, or misaligned teeth
  • Check the oral cavity for other issues like infections, tooth decay, oral cancer, cracks, cavities, and more before anything becomes serious.

For patients unhappy with the appearance of their teeth, dental veneers may be a good option. However, if the teeth are weak or unhealthy, such as in cases of active gum disease or decay, or insufficient existing enamel, veneers may not be a good choice. This is also the case for those who tend to grind or clench their teeth, because that may result in chipping or cracking.

How Do They Work?

Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill, as well as attention to cosmetic detail. Our dentist will take an impression of the teeth in question and send it to the laboratory, which will produce the veneers. We ensure all veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelains, and are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available.

When we receive the veneers back from the lab, our dentist will make certain they’re the ideal fit, shape, and match the color of the natural teeth before bonding the veneers to the existing teeth. We place veneers routinely as a cosmetic practice, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile.

When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options.

Using an occlusal or bite guard, at night, is highly recommended. If accidental breakage or damage occurs, it’s usually possible to replace only the veneer involved. With proper care, porcelain veneers will last a long time.
