Robert J. Beall, DMD, FICOI, AFAAID

Dr. Robert Beall is a native of Charleston, SC, who comes from a family of 10 children, including a twin brother, Tony, who is an anesthesiologist here in Charleston.

Dr. Beall has been practicing dentistry for over 25 years. He has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education in subjects such as cosmetic dentistry, implant surgery, and restorative dentistry.

Additionally, Dr. Beall has received numerous honors and awards such as:

Dr. Beall is passionate about giving back and volunteers with Marine Reach Ministries Dental Mission and Our Lady of Mercy Dental Outreach. He also works closely with Pet Helpers, Lowcountry Orphan Relief, and Lowcountry Food Bank.

When he’s not taking care of patients, Dr. Beall enjoys spending time with his adopted daughter from Russia, Grace, beach volleyball, surfing, playing the guitar, and working out.

Patricia L. Blanton, DDS, MS, PhD

Meet Charleston SC Periodontist Dr. Blanton

Professor Emeritus, Biomedical Sciences, TAMUS/BCD; Past Interim Dean, James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, MUSC; Diplomate in Oral Medicine; practicing periodontist and consultant in head and neck surgical anatomy.

Dr. Blanton earned a BA in Chemistry from Hardin Simmons University, an MS and Ph.D. in Anatomy from Baylor University, and a DDS and Certificate in Periodontics from Baylor University College of Dentistry. Dr. Blanton has held numerous state and national offices including past President of the American College of Dentists, Vice President of the American Dental Association, and President of the Dallas County Dental Society.  She was the first woman President of the Texas Dental Association (TDA) and received the Gold Medal of Distinguished Service, the highest honor given by the TDA.

Dr. Blanton was named Distinguished Alumnus of TAMUS/BCD, Distinguished Alumnus of the Department of Periodontics, Distinguished Alumnus of Hardin Simmons University, and received the Dallas County Dental Society Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2012, she was inducted into the TAMUS/BCD Hall of Fame.  Most recently, Dr. Blanton received the “Distinguished Service Award” – the highest award given by the American Dental Association, and the Pierre Fauchard Gold Medal, the highest award granted by the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Dr. Blanton serves on the Foundation Board of the American College of Dentists and is a member of, ADEA Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion.  She lectures nationally and internationally and has authored more than one hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Matthew Christie

Dr. Christie was born in California and bounced around to Idaho and Arizona, then back to California, before settling in Charleston. He attended the University of the Pacific in San Francisco where he graduated with High Honors and induction into the national Omicron Kappa Upsilon honor society.

Following graduation, Dr. Christie began his Navy career in Great Lakes, IL where he trained with multiple specialties gaining surgical and restorative experience. Next, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan where he provided care to Marines and their dependents at Air Base Futenma. Due to his consistent high standard of practice, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps achievement medal upon his departure to Charleston in 2019.

During his time in Charleston, Dr. Christie has been practicing at the Navy Nuclear Power Training Command dental clinic ensuring that sailors are operationally prepared to man nuclear powered submarines and aircraft carriers. He has fully enjoyed his Navy career and is excited to bring the skills learned into private practice with Dr. Beall and the highly experienced team at James Island Family Dentistry.

Dr. Christie has a practice philosophy of providing the highest quality comprehensive dental care in a gentle and compassionate manner. He is very enthusiastic about emerging dental technologies and regularly participates in continuing education courses to learn the latest and best techniques for his patients.

In his free time Dr. Christie loves spending time with his wife, Lisa, and children, Elijah and Juliette (and their Great Dane, Moose). They enjoy attending Church together, exploring the outdoor biking trails and parks around the city, and everything else that Charleston has to offer.
